The 2005 Canadian Pacific Railway
Holiday Train

At Mauston, WI - 10 Dec 2005

"Each December, Canadian Pacific's Holiday Train travels across Canada and the United States to raise food, money and awareness for local food banks. Illuminated by hundreds of thousands of festive lights, the Holiday Train makes its way across seven states and six provinces visiting over 100 Canadian and U.S. communities." CPR Website

We left Eau Claire about 17:30 to make the two hour trip to Mauston. It was dark and I-94 was wet from a light snow and a sprinkling of road salt. After arriving in Mauston we made a brief stop to get something to eat. Then we found our way to the Mauston Industrial Park to meet some friends and see the train. The Holiday Train was delayed leaving its previous stop at Portage, WI due to an Amtrak train on its way from Chicago to Minneapolis. A few minutes after Amtrak passed thru Mauston the Holiday Train arrived, later than scheduled but welcomed by a large crowd for a small town.

Most of the people have left. The train is pulling out of Mauston for one more show in Sparta. It was after midnight before we got back to Eau Claire. Some rain was starting to fall so driving was a little hazzardous for a while. Thanks to CPR, the train crew, entertainers, Phil and April (who gave me the hat and whistle). It was a fun time.
