The Alville & Captown Railroad
The Tunnels

Stoney Mountain would have the first tunnel on the railroad. It has to be strong to hold up a covering of rocks. It ended up being at the highest elevation of the railroad.

Mountains 2 and 3 were built of concrete chunks from my driveway. The roadbed through them is also concrete from the driveway. The top is pressure treated wood covered with a layer of polyethelyene and old shingles. Topsoil from the pond excavation gave width to the mountains and covers the top. They were planted with a various ground covers including at least 3 varities of sedum, ajuga, creeping phlox, and dianthus.

Tunnel portals were added in 2008 and 2009. See the Tunnel Portals page. An access hatch for Tunnel 3 was added in the fall of 2009.
